Why Linfield?

Excellence in Athletics

Why Linfield?

Because our student athletes have an opportunity to participate in multiple sports, learning to compete and to value leadership, self-discipline, and teamwork.

What sets Linfield Athletics apart? Here are just a few examples.

A Winning Tradition

When you play a sport at Linfield, not only do you learn about hard work and sportsmanship, you also become part of a rich winning tradition, one that has stood the test of time. In fact, since joining the CIF Southern Section in 1980, the Lions have won an impressive 119 League Championships, 24 CIF Championships, and 1 CIF State Regional Championship. The school has also produced 238 All-CIF players! We play hard, and we play to win. But it's not for ourselves or our own glory. It's because God has called us to work hard in everything we do and to run the race with purpose. And whether you're playing in a game or working at your first job, when you have that kind of winning attitude, amazing things happen.

Taking it To the Next Level

Linfield is a relatively small school, so you might be surprised to learn that in the last ten years, 115 of our athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level in the last ten years! In fact, there are 36 Linfield alumni currently playing college athletics at a variety of schools, everything from junior colleges to NCAA Division 1 universities. Whether it’s Coach Burns hitting the phones to work his connections in the coaching community or our college counselors helping you get into specific databases and guiding you through the admissions process, we are committed to helping you achieve your dreams. And if you have the talent, grades, and work ethic, it might just be possible for you to take your game to the next level.

Lead the Way

Linfield is proud to provide the most comprehensive middle school sports' offering of any school in the Valley, private or public. When most schools are cutting athletic funding, why are we seeking to expand programs at both the middle and high school level? Because, with a mission statement as bold as Linfield's, it is important that we provide our students with every opportunity to develop character, teamwork, courage, and determination. Graduates will need to be fully equipped in mind, body, and spirit if they are going to effectively “serve the Lord and change the world through their character and leadership."  Middle school athletics provide just one more advantage, allowing our students to develop these skills and character qualities even at a young age.

Get in the Game

The benefits of athletic participation are well-documented. Besides promoting fitness and overall well-being, team sports provide opportunities for students to learn invaluable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and leadership, skills that will undoubtedly help them later in life, and at a small school, sports are not just for an elite group of superstars; everyone can get involved. In fact, approximately 72% of high school and 83% of middle school students participated in Linfield athletics last year! Not only can you play at Linfield, you have the opportunity to excel in multiple sports if you are so inclined. Want to play both football and lacrosse, both soccer and softball, or cross-country, basketball, AND tennis? No need to limit yourself; just get in the game!

On the Same Team

Whether you're five years old or eighteen, when you go to Linfield, you're a Lion. We're all on the same team, and it is a blessing to watch our older students act as encouragers and mentors to the youngest members of our community. In particular, during Elementary School Cheer Camp, high school cheerleaders spend a week in afternoon sessions with elementary students, teaching them some basic skills and fundamentals, getting to know them, and encouraging their growth. While the camp culminates with a special performance at a varsity game that allows the kids to show what they've learned, it is perhaps more important for the way it links the campuses together and cultivates relationships between Lions of all ages.
